Sisterwood is Pat Mann and Neila Gelvin and of course, our dogs. Pat started
in dogs over 40 years ago with Poodles, showing and breeding them. She and
her husband actually 'show-chaired' the Poodle Specialty in Kansas City in
1964. Neila had a less spectacular past in dogs, however. She bred her first Collie
litter in 1951 and went on to again breed Collies in the early '70's.
We began our Sisterwood Kennels in the early 1980's with Shelties. The
grooming began to take a toll on our arms so we started earnestly looking
for another intelligent, happy-to-learn breed with a shorter coat. VOILA!!
We happily discovered the Cardigan! We first saw them at the dogshow in St.
Louis in '85 or '86 and we purchased our first Cardi in December of '86. We
got her from longtime Cardi breeder, Norma Chandler.
It has been a wonderful journey through Cardidom. Both of us love the breed
more than any others we have ever owned. The breed is very loyal, extremely intelligent, can
sense your moods, care for your children, herd your animals, play all day and
yet be very content to sit with you in the evenings. They don't demand
attention, but are very affectionate and loving when you give it. Those of
us who own (or rather are owned by) them are endlessly delighted by their antics!
We are committed to improving the breed by producing sound show dogs, and finding wonderful
caring homes for those puppies not destined for the show ring. All of our puppies sold
as pets must be spayed/neutered.
If you are not yet convinced you that you should have a Cardigan for a wonderful, fun companion
or a neat show dog, we invite you to browse our web site, and e-mail us with any
questions or just to talk about this most versatile and fascinating of
breeds.
